Successful People

If you are following me on Instagram, you may have seen that I was honored enough to be a part of a CreativeLive class in the audience.

It was taught by the amazing Laura Vanderkam and was all about how to be successful before breakfast and after. If you haven’t experienced her, you need to go right now!

The Most Successful

I learned so much and am still trying to process it all.

I’ve been surrounding myself with inspirational things to keep me going. The most recent discovery was on Pinterest (of course) that was linked to a site called Daily Quotes.

So…which of these 12 things are you going to start doing?

“It’s Been Done Before”

I’ve been having some sad conversations with people lately. The whole conversation revolves around how many other photographers have done the same thing.

A couple kissing, showing off the engagement ring or an overhead shot of the couple in the grass.

Babies curling up in buckets, baskets, bottles and boxes.

A chair or couch in a field.

Now, there is definitely something to be said about originality. About doing images that you want to do. So if you don’t want to drag a large vintage couch into a field, don’t do it.

However, if you have a vision….there shouldn’t be something holding you back from doing so.

Because remember….no one has done this pose with your clients and you. Yes, it may look similar to the Winning Image from WPPI in 2010 but here’s the kicker….your clients weren’t there. They didn’t see it. You have an idea, maybe even show them that image as inspiration and you can still present it to the world.

If you want to do something, no matter if someone else has done it, do it! Get out there and photograph it.

See how different it can be?

I do my thing, and you do your thing.
I am not in this world to live up to your expectations, and you are not in this world to live up to mine.
You are you, and I am I, and if by chance we find each other, it’s beautiful.

WordPress Wednesday :: Jetpack

Today I get to talk about my love of Jetpack! Forgive me if I gush just a bit….but seriously, this plugin is the best!

What do you think? Do you use Jetpack? If not, do you have a reason or have you just not discovered it before?

What else do you want to know about WordPress? I’m here to help YOU!

With love,

WordPress Wednesday :: Installation

I had a script all planned out for a video this week and then my dad needed me to help him with some things so I have had to do an emergency trip with him several hours south. I was still planning on making a video, just with a different background. The problem occurs with the lack of lighting options. Who knew that fluorescent lighting in lounge waiting areas was so horrible?

Okay, that was a trick question…I think we all knew this would be an awful idea. So instead, I’m going to do some links for you to help you install WordPress on your site.

Here are the direct links that will take you to the pages that will walk you through each step for your particular hosting company!

Now on to my favorite. Tigertech is the company I use and I have had nothing but amazingness with them. Not only are they less expensive than most other companies that I’ve researched, their customer service has been comparable to none. Through my helping a number of photographers over the years, I have an unusual amount of experience with different companies. Seriously, if you have thought about switching hosting companies and want someone that is easy to use, you can get a real person (based in the US even!) for support and it’s easy on your wallet, you need to use Tigertech!

Next week, I’ll be back with a video and we’ll go through the different options within the WordPress install directly!

Let me know if you have any questions and don’t forget, there is still time to fill out my questionnaire and help me guide the future.

Tuesday Tip :: WordPress Pressing You?

I’ve worked with a lot of people lately that are having problems with WordPress. Between trying to navigate your hosting company to discovering what a hosting company is or where your domain is housed, it can be overwhelming to get the information yourself or try to understand something that may look like it’s written in Klingon.

I’ve had something on my mind that I’ve been working through for the past few months and now, I’m ready for your help! I’m going to prep some things for you in the future but know that I need support and influence from you guys!

If you could fill out the below questionnaire that would be awesome! It’s only a couple questions and shouldn’t take very long at all!

7 Tips for Working From Home

from Dana of Wonder Forest

First off, I am not very impressed with the way Pinterest changed the embedding option. I can see that they wanted to allow for some great changes and make it easy, however the very basic html code creator is no longer there. Ah, well. I’ll just do it the hard way!

That being said, you must check out this blog post from Dana. I’ve really begun to love the types of posts that she has been creating lately and especially this one. I’ve been structuring my days better, each hour getting set in and especially number 3.

Tip number 3 has settled in to be even more truthful and I’ve been working hard.

What is number 3?

Go and read the article and let me know which tip you felt hit home the most!

Linky Love :: Be a Productivity Ninja

Living in the world we do it can be very difficult to get things done. Right now, I’m sitting on a couch at a dear friend’s house more than halfway across the US from home. I have multiple things going at once and because I’m not at my main home base, it can become an issue. Without my measures in place to allow me to work at my most effective are not in place. Last week I was at WPPI and it was amazing and exhausting and never as truly productive as I need it to be. This week, I’m in Alabama and going to be photographing a 30th birthday party, with family shots, an adorable 1 year old and several gorgeous ladies looking hawt and sexy. It was cheaper to fly in and out on a Monday, so I’m spending a full 7 days here (well, it would have been 7 days if my first flight (a red-eye) hadn’t ended up being 4.5 hours late…but that’s another story) and still trying to be as productive as possible.

Having to change up my routine is becoming difficult but we are never going to grow if we are not open to change. So I shall do what I can to get things done, apologize profusely for things I fail at (sorry for those lovely ladies I’m doing any sort of designing for….) and keep trucking.

Tamara Lackey is talking about All In One Life on CreativeLive and has the owner of Nerd Fitness on. Their site is fantastic and that’s where I found this gem of a blogpost. I just had to share it with you!

It’s changing the way I’m doing some things today! I hope it helps you too.

WPPI 2013 Recap

This is the third year I attended WPPI in Las Vegas and was pretty amazing. My first year, I had no idea what was going on and overbooked myself trying to do everything at once. It was still a wonderful experience though! The same for the second year. That year, I worked at a booth during the Expo so was standing and talking to people for three days straight. It was overwhelming in a whole different way.

Ready to fly! Just waiting on my flying buddy! #imkindofabigdeal #wppi #wppi2013 #pdx #airport #ibelieveicanfly

This year, I had my schedule to myself. I flew with the lovely and beautiful Kristina of Kristina Kathryn Brand Design and we stayed that night at the Air Force Base with the fabulous Amber (her assistant and friend) before driving to the strip.

Even got to indulge in coffee and some toddler snuggle time before leaving!

Hot coffee and Nick Jr with a little buddy this morning before embarking to the madness of #wppi. It's a good way to wake up in #vegas! #wppi2013 #morningcuppajoe

Our view is pretty spectacular for a regular room! #mgmgrand #vegas #wppi #wppi2013 #wideopenspaces

This year, in addition to the regular fun stuff, we also left the MGM hotel and even left the strip for a meal one night!

Dinner at Brio!

Dueling Pianos at New York New York was pretty amazing and a great excuse to get dressed up!

The classes were great this year too. My favorite speaker this year again was Elizabeth Messina – she is such a beautiful speaker, a wonderful photographer and has one of those souls that is divine. I wish I had gotten a better picture….alas, such is life!

The gorgeous @elizabethmessina after a beautiful talk. She is a great photographer, but I love, adore and am drawn to herself as a person. Her soul is beautiful. #beautiulpeople #ilovemylife

I even managed to get some work done! Being self employed means you are never really off duty but being able to hang out in the sun with a glass of wine in the middle of the day makes it easier to handle!

Living the high life. Working in the sun with a glass of wine. #thephotogshelper #workinghard #vegas #wppi #wppi2013

I cannot wait to see what next year will bring. Each year is so different and yet so comfortably refreshing! Even getting a bloody nose in the middle of Sue Bryce‘s class was worth it. I’m putting together a post of some incredible new vendors to tell you about too! I even brought home a bit of love from one of them for you guys!

I hope you have a glorious week!
