Do you ever get hit by a lightening bolt of glorious inspiration?
In helping a friend pick some prints for her to order from Art.com I discovered Cecil Beaton. Now, I recognized his work from my days as an art major 10+ years ago, but had never looked at it from a portrait photography point of view.
I was fascinated. His posing and cropping and lighting all were glorious. Learning more about him and how he photographed most of the current royal family at least once and his awards for costume design for My Fair Lady and a variety of other distinctions made me realize how much I adored his work even more.
My tip for you is this. Take a look at historical artwork. Get posing inspiration from the Renaissance master painters. Get lighting ideas from architects. Check out the past to find things that call to your soul and allow you to grow as an artist.
Now excuse me, I need to go immerse myself in some more Cecil…
