My life has been really crazy for the last year, and even more so in the last 6 months. This past weekend I was able to take some time for myself and it was greatly appreciated. Desperately needed, even.
Even though it was freezing cold here in Oregon (literally….there was snow in some places), getting out and about was so wonderful.
My dad and I got up somewhat early (okay, so it was like 9 but we thought about going earlier…that counts, right?) and headed out.
When my dad was in the Air Force, he was responsible for switching out the film on the spy planes. He’s been involved with photography for a long time and over the last few decades has moved away from that while he built his other career. This was a great chance for him to pull out his gear, including his old Canon SLR that he had gotten back for his honeymoon to my mom years ago. We also got to talk photog talk and discuss Aperture, ISO and Shutter Speed. It was so great having time to spend with my dad and enjoying shooting again.
I got to take an image of my daddy, doing something that he loves.
I also got to take some beautiful images of an amazing old cemetery. Some of the graves were for children and others for people over 90 years old. All from before the 20th century.
And I got a fun portrait of myself from my dad too:
It was a lovely weekend.
When was the last time you shot, just for yourself? Or had fun, remembering the reason you fell in love with photography in the first place?
