There has been a lot of talk in the photography world about protection. Protecting ideas, protecting images, and a new revolution from Link With Love, all about how to properly link and repin and great stuff. Please check them out!
Now onto the main attraction.
The amazingly talented Skye Hardwick wrote a blog post back in December on her Reverie blog about watermarking. How the protection can actually help your business.
There is so much you can do to help protect your images and Skye goes through 5 options.
But the biggest thing to think about when placing anything where anyone can get it is that you have to have the right mindset. You need to remember that your work is WORTH protecting. That you can’t give it away for free to whoever wants.
Skye touches on it a bit, but I’m afraid that so many people don’t really think about it. So many photographers I talk to don’t believe in themselves. Don’t get me wrong, no one is ever at the point that they want to be – where they can stop learning. You should always continue to learn and grow in your art.
If you don’t believe that your work is good though, you should ask yourself why you are making this your business. If you cannot go through your portfolio and find one image you like then you need to have a heart to heart with yourself. You should be proud of your work. Your work is worthwhile. You are amazing and people deserve to see your work and pay you for it. This is why you should protect your work. Watermark it and have the strength of will to do so proudly.
